The American Red Cross strives to relieve human suffering and to develop the capabilities of people to help themselves throughout the world. It achieves this goal by working with and through its Red Cross and Red Crescent partners around the globe in accordance with the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement.

American Red Cross International Services is transforming into one of the nation's best and most respected providers of services for the world's most vulnerable people. There are six international program priority areas:

*Food Security
*Tracing and Red Cross Messages
*Organizational Development
*Dissemination of International Humanitarian Law

*Locating family members in the midst of war, civil unrest or disaster in other countries;
*Exchanging family messages when regular channels of communication are severed during war;
*Making international disaster relief inquiries about family members;
*Learning about International Services and International Humanitarian Law.
